Other Funding

Other institutions and organizations offer support to students and faculty who are interested in studying or doing research in Austria. CAS offers links to some of them below.

Austro-American Association of Boston is pleased to announce its annual Scholarship of $1,000 for work focusing on Austrian Culture. Project areas may include: History, Literature, Art, Architecture, Folk Customs, Music, or Contemporary Life.

Eligibility:
Undergraduate or graduate students and junior faculty at New England Colleges or Universities.

Applicants should submit (there is no official application form):

  • Detailed project proposal, including the reason for selecting it
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Two confidential letters of support from faculty members who know the
    applicant well and can comment on the feasibility of the project.

The winner must be willing to offer a presentation of the project at an event of the Austro-American Association. For more information on the Association please visit the Austro-American Association website. The application deadline is April 1, 2008. A personal interview may be requested.

Leo Baeck Fellowship Program

Fulbright Scholar Grants

Scholars who are interested in pursuing research projects in Austria and Central Europe, start planning ahead to apply for a Fulbright Scholar grant to teach and perform research in your country of choice. These awards are for the 2009-10 academic year.

Distinguished Chair awards in Austria, Hungary and Poland
The most prestigious research/lecturing appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program.  Candidates should be senior scholars and have a significant publication and teaching record.  Application deadline: May 1, 2008

Austrian-Hungarian Joint Research Award
This joint award offers scholars the opportunity to conduct research in the humanities or social sciences on the relationship between Austria and Hungary in collaboration with Austrian and Hungarian specialists. Grantees spend 2 months in Austria and 2 months in Hungary.  Application deadline: August 1, 2008

Fulbright/IFK Visiting Fellow in Cultural Studies
Conduct research in cultural studies for 4 months at the International Research Center for Cultural Studies in Vienna. Projects should be interdisciplinary and comparative research in cultural studies and humanities relevant to Viennese, Austrian and Central European traditions.  Application deadline: August 1, 2008

All Disciplines awards in Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia
A chance for scholars to teach and/or perform research in their particular areas of interest in their countries of choice.  Application deadline: August 1, 2008
