Social Policy in the New Europe: The Experience of Austria and the Smaller EU Members
March 27–29, 2008
An international scholarly symposium and a policy practitioners’ workshop to be sponsored by the Center for Austrian Studies, the European Studies Consortium, the College of Liberal Arts Scholarly Events Fund, the Government of Finland/Speer Fund, the Hubert Humphrey Institute, Center for the Study of Politics and Governance, Center for German and European Studies, the School of Social Work, and the Departments of Sociology and Political Science at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
This conference will use the experience of Austria and the other smaller members of the European Union to analyze changes in social policy and social programs since the early 1980s. The participating experts (including scholars and policy practitioners) will be asked to examine both continuities and change in legislation, social insurance, and social and educational services; and they will assess the success and effectiveness of various major initiatives and new models for policy and services.
